On April 1, 2022 (yes, April 1) we signed a contract to have a home built in a Robson Resort called Quail Creek just a few miles south of Tucson. It's the same idea as Gold Canyon, but the homes are stick-built (and much bigger) and you own the land. It also has a fancy clubhouse, a number of art studios and workshops, 27 holes of golf and lower annual HOA fees than our lease at Gold Canyon, where we own our park model but not the land it sits on.
Our home is due to be finished at the end of April 2023 and so far they are on schedule without any issues in sight. Our timing was good as the Covid backups and low-interest land rush ended just after we bought. Aren't we clever?
The first picture below is the view from our new backyard. The rest are of the model home. Ours will be the identical layout, but with personalized finishes and our existing furniture. Our backyard faces into the desert, so we can be one with the coyotes and rattlesnakes without seeing other houses.
20 years ago I'd ask you to shoot me if I said I wanted to live in an "adult community." Then I became an adult and tried it.
