our Daily Life

Waiting for our new home in Sauhuarita

12/7/2022

On April 1, 2022 (yes, April 1) we signed a contract to have a home built in a Robson Resort called Quail Creek just a few miles south of Tucson. It's the same idea as Gold Canyon, but the homes are stick-built (and much bigger) and you own the land. It also has a fancy clubhouse, a number of art studios and workshops, 27 holes of golf and lower annual HOA fees than our lease at Gold Canyon, where we own our park model but not the land it sits on.

Our home is due to be finished at the end of April 2023 and so far they are on schedule without any issues in sight. Our timing was good as the Covid backups and low-interest land rush ended just after we bought. Aren't we clever?

The first picture below is the view from our new backyard. The rest are of the model home. Ours will be the identical layout, but with personalized finishes and our existing furniture. Our backyard faces into the desert, so we can be one with the coyotes and rattlesnakes without seeing other houses.

Life in a "Luxury RV Park"

12/7/2022

It started with just a week, then two, then months, now full time

While waiting for a new home south of Tucson, we're at a place south of Phoenix called Gold Canyon Golf and RV park. We really love it here, and like many people we were sucked into the comfortable lifestyle and friendly people.

When we started coming here in in 2017, we were in a 24 foot Winnebago View and only stayed a couple weeks. Over the years we sold the view, rented a place, then in 2020 bought our current home, below. Then during Covid we missed the next season.

Gold Canyon Golf and RV Resort
We're living in a 'park model' in an RV park with nice facilities, amenities, and activities. Fred is pretty social, I'm active in the woodshop and solo night time water aerobics. We've made a lot of friends here, and it's going to be hard to leave them and the community feel behind. I've never been anywhere else like this.
Life in a Park Model
After we sold our house in August 22, we moved to Gold Canyon full time. We live in what's called a "park model." Designed to fit on the same size lot as an RV would use, it's a super-short single wide with an "Arizona Room." (Which is an add-on room and storage shed.) Compared to living in a 25 foot motor home, it's deluxe. And being on a wall rather than in the middle of the park back-to-back with other people makes it even better.

We love our home and so do other people. In fact, we've already got it pre-sold to people who'll take it over when we move out in April.

20 years ago I'd ask you to shoot me if I said I wanted to live in an "adult community." Then I became an adult and tried it.
